Lugano is a Municipality of Canton Ticino and with its 60.068 inhabitants (over 145.000 inhabitants in the whole built-up area) it is the ninth Swiss city considering the population and the biggest cantonal urban center. It is situated at 273 meters a.s.l. in the Southern part of Switzerland on the Northern bank of the Ceresio Lake ( usually known as Lugano Lake) and extends between Mount Brè and Mount San Salvatore on around 32 km2 surface.
Lugano is a popular tourism area but it also established itself worldwide as a leading international banking center, the third in Switzerland after Zurich and Geneva
